Battery Replacement Saga Pt 8/9

Part 7 is here

“Everything will be alright in the end, if it's not alright, it is not yet the end.”
― Simit Patel

I wish this was part 8 of 8 because then I will have reached the end, and everything would be alright.

Alas, I have not reached the end, and everything isn't alright.

I shipped my Wife's macBook Pro to Apple Monday afternoon. It arrived Tuesday. It was fixed Tuesday and shipped back. It arrived Wednesday morning. Considering that Apple quoted me 3-5 days. 1.5 days was definitely a case of underpromising and overdelivering.

I have been patiently waiting to find out how much the repair was going to cost. Theory said $199 + Tax as per the Apple Repair Page and also the quote I received, in writing, from the "genius" at the Apple Store.

Today I my credit card was charged $316.60. That is definitely a case of overpromising and under delivering.

So today I spent 59 minutes on the phone to Apple Support to find out why I was overcharged. Their chat system was down so I had to speak to people. This meant I have no record - Apple probably recorded the whole thing.

After speaking to a supervisor I was informed $19.95 was to ship me a box to ship the mac to Apple instead of going to the store - where they would ship the mac to Apple - which is reasonable and I accept that. Then there was the $100 labor charge.

After William - for that was the supervisors name - explained where the cost came to he asked me if I understood the extra cost and was happy. I was sure to let him know that I was anything but happy. I was overcharged. I should have only paid $199+$19.95+TAX.

After he went away to talk to other people for a good 15 minutes he came back on the line to tell me my case had been escalated to some other department who handles cases like this and I would hear back in 3 - 5 days.

I set myself a reminder. If I don't hear back and get satisfaction, I going to do a credit card chargeback.

Meanwhile my wife was very upset because a sticker she had to the left of the trackpad was missing. Yes they replaced the entire top case to exchange the battery. Thankfully we were able to source a replacement sticker but until it arrives I get to live with an upset Welsh woman, not a happy prospect.

There'll be at least one more installment. You can read it here.
