Today I'm off on a road trip. To a place I've never heard of before. With some friends.
I've been looking forward to this for a while. To hit the road, get out of London for the day, see a new place, make memories, and relax in the company of good friends.
I was saying to one of the girls yesterday that I hope the trip is either excellent or awful. The one thing I don't want it to be is bang average or boring.
It's obvious that an excellent day out is desirable. But awful? Well, I'm not hoping for any long term damage, like someone breaking their leg or the like. But in my experience, days like this are best when they're hot or cold, this way or that.
When things don't go to plan, and an hyped up day out turns out to be way overblown, it's funny. It's at the very least memorable, something to look back upon and laugh at.
In that way, I'm trying to live my life similarly. To take riskier steps when it's called for. To move something from bang average, to great or bad.
It's easy to live life in mediocrity. Just doing today what we did yesterday. Living today's life inside the bounds of yesterday's, inside our warm little comfort zone where most things are bearable.
But life isn't made to be lived like that. Imagine living the rest of your days with this mindset. You'll get to the end of your life and think, "where did all that time go?"
No, we're made for adventures. We're made to step out into the unknown, with the risk of good and bad outcomes.
Today is going to be memorable I'm sure. I'm looking forward to being present in the moment of it all, before it becomes yesterdays memory.
